So last weekend we were feeling for something Mexican and decided to try out Achiote Taqueria in Rockwell, Powerplant. Turns out this place is opened by Chef Robby formerly of Ristras. Its not easily noticed if you are inside the mall since the restaurant’s entrance is from the outside of the mall. You have to go out from the R1 level exit of Via Mare and turn left.
Once inside, the interior feels comfortably Mexican. From its yellow walls to accent decorations, its a nice setup. The staff is friendly and well informed to help you make choices. There is a pre-set menu or you can choose to create your own dish. You can choose from the usual Mexican fare of Burritos, Tacos, Enchiladas, Chimichangas, etc..
So onto the food, we ordered the Nachos as an appetizer. Its a hefty corn dish generously filled with toppings and cheese.
One of us ordered the main course of Achiote Burrito(P375) which is chicken and lengua wrapped together with beans and sauce. The taste is nice and goes well together with the salsa that is served. You can also request for chili and sour cream sauce if you prefer it a little hot. What I did not like is the wrap seems to fall apart easily. Either the wrap is too thin or maybe its wrapped too hot so the tortilla flour is flimsy and soft.
Nonetheless, it can be a mouthful. Here is my brother enjoying his all-lengua burrito.
Achiote boasts its standard for the high quality ingredients. They use free range chicken from Magnolia/Bounty Fresh and Kitayama Wagyu beef from bukidnon. Their tomatoes are very fresh as well and its evident in the salsa.
Overall, the restaurant serves good Mexican food. It can be a bit pricey but that is to be expected as with most restaurants in Rockwell. Comparing with Ristra’s, the quantity of the serving in Achiote is a little less than Ristra’s. It makes up for it though in ambiance and service quality.
As always, feel free to leave a comment below if you have your own opinions about the place. Thanks for reading.
