Restaurants in Solaire Resort & Casino

Solaire Resort & Casino is the newest attraction in Manila. It has recently opened its doors and had its ribbon cut by no less than the Philippine president himself–Noynoy Aquino. It’s positioned itself to be a prominent competitor to Resorts World. The casino and hotel aspects of it aside, this article is to give a quick run-down of the restaurants you can find in Solaire. All the restaurants in Solaire can be considered fine dining restaurants with the exception of a few. Expect the average price range of Php 500 per person and up for most. You can expect to spend around Php 180-250 per person in the food court and noodle place. There are 4 fine dining restaurants, 2 casual dining, 1 food court, and 2 bars.

1. YAKUMI

Yakumi is the Japanese restaurant in Solaire. It features some of the best and freshest sushi, sashimi, and even that huge hokkaido crab as seen in the photo above. Its executive chef, Norimasa Kosaka has worked in 5-star hotels in Australia, India and the Maldives.

This restaurant has a panoramic view of the Manila Bay.

2. STRIP STEAKHOUSE

Strip Steakhouse is where the finest American Kobe beef is imported fresh and cooked to perfection as you like it. Strip steakhouse has a huge 20 seater table near its wine walls so reserve in advance if you are a dining with a large party and wants that table. Strip serves great beef steak and some of the finest wines. For a romantic dinner date, choose one of the tables facing Manila Bay.

The executive chef of Strip Steakhouse is Trevor Macloed, he has previously worked in hotels in Abu Dhabi, Shanghai, and Canada. His previous restaurant in Abu Dhabi, has been recognized as Best Steakhouse in 2010 & 2011 while under his direction.

This restaurant has a panoramic view of the Manila Bay.

3. RED LANTERN

Red Lantern is the luxuriant and fine dining Chinese restaurant of Solaire. Perfect place for those ting-hun (engagement) parties. The decorations, fine china and silverware used just screams class. While they have not yet completed their set menu courses, they offer sumptious dimsums, peking ducks, sucking pigs, and other authentic Chinese cuisines. Their executive chef, Lo Ka Cheung Sam came from hotel kitchens in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.

This restaurant has no panoramic view of the Manila Bay.

4. FINESTRA

Finestra is the Italian restaurant of Solaire Resort & Casino. If pasta and pizza is what your tummy craves for, then allow Chef Salvatore de Vincentis to satisfy you. As an experienced chef from Edsa Shangri-la and other places like Dubai and the Bahamas, Chef Salvatore has won many awards. There is an open table for appetizers in Finestra and the exquisite ambiance of the place will make you savor the dining experience.

5. LUCKY NOODLES

Lucky Noodles is going to be popular mainly because of the price. Its the most-affordable dine-in place. Its a clean but otherwise plain looking noodle house. It serves some dimsum, noodle soups, dry noodles, fried rice, roasting dishes, and then some. Its priced most dishes around the 200-300 range. Its pricey by any standards of local noodle houses but in the company of signature restaurants at Solaire, its the most affordable place to dine in. Its executive chef, Lai Kok Wai is a Cantonese cuisine specialist and served previously as the Chinese executive chef to the royal family of Brunei.

6. FRESH

Fresh is Solaire’s premier buffet dining. Unlike Resort’s World Mercado which is crappy, Fresh seems to hold promise. A quick tour around the tables show generous spreads of dishes of different variety that can be compared to Circles and Heat of Shangri-la. It has carving stations serving beef ribs, pizza & pasta stations, and so much more.

Even their dessert station seems impressive with the sweet offerings of cookies, cakes, fruits, ice cream and various culinary works. The place is big and features an open kitchen where everything seems very welcoming.

The price is not cheap but they do offer alot to be fair. I’ll let you be the judge if you think its worth it or not.

Fresh’s executive chef, Sacha Gausselmann has over 20 years of experience in the industry and has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in London and Switzerland.

7. FOOD COURT

There is a food court in Solaire and contrary to what you may be thinking, there is no outsider concessionaire in Solaire. There is no regular establishments that you find in your regular foodcourts. Here its all in-house by Solaire’s Chef Hisham. The choices are limited and the prices are not cheap food court prices. While the self-service ambiance is same, the prices of a meal in this food court is Php 150-250 on the average. This is for a rice topping, a slice of pizza, or a bowl of noodles. Its pricing is similar to Lucky Noodles actually so unless you dislike Chinese, Lucky Noodles may be a better choice.

As of this writing, there are six (6) choices in the food court of Solaire:

• American (burgers/fries)
• Japanese (donburi)
• Hong Kong (noodles/roast asado)
• Roast Chicken
• New York Pizzas and Nachos
• Patisserie (bread and pastries).

8. ECLIPSE BAR
Eclipse Bar in Solaire is a lounge that seems very inviting. You can just walk right in from the casino floor and the lounge chairs look very comfortable. The bar never closes and serves a large variety of cocktails and liquors. There is live entertainment nightly and its free. This may end up as a great casual get-together place to enjoy a few drinks with live classy entertainment.

9. DRAGON BAR

The Dragon Bar of Solaire is a casual lobby lounge that is strategically located between the hotel front desk and the casino floor. Its equally accessible to both hotel patrons and casino players looking for a break. Its aptly named Dragon Bar for the huge silver dragon centerpiece. You can’t miss it. They serve breakfast, coffee, tea or martini.

That sums up the restaurants in Solaire. I did miss checking out one place called the Sunset Bar & Grill which is their outdoor poolside restaurant for your quick burgers and fruit shakes.
